ISKCON of
Silicon Valley

A complete experience for the body, mind and soul.

ISKCON of Silicon Valley is a Hare Krishna temple, community, and ashram dedicated to the practice of bhakti-yoga. Under the guidance of His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu, ISKCON Silicon Valley is home to a loving community of practicing Hare Krishna devotees and is dedicated to the practice of bhakti-yoga.

ISV was a small community which started in a congregation member’s home. We grew from a small home, to a partial storefront, a parking lot, and then finally to our own community. Our growth and vibrant community is attributed to our voracious distribution of books in the millions.

We have built various programs which reach out to individuals in the corporate, motels, hotels, stores, hospitals, prisons and many more. Our community also has a strong youth community which we are learning to support. As our new generation brings forth heightened energy in the outreach efforts, we are placing high priority on touching younger audiences of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

HARE KRISHNA MANTRA MEDITATION

What is Kirtan?

5

”golokera prema-dhana, hari-nāma-saṅkīrtana“

The only remedy (to be saved from fire of material existence) is hari-nāma-saṅkīrtana, the chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, which is imported from the spiritual world, Goloka Vṛndāvana.

At ISKCON of Silicon Valley, we are dedicated to bringing the matchless gift of Kirtan Mellows to each and every home in the Bay Area. Kirtan combines chanting of a sacred mantra or spiritual sound vibration with melodious music that revives one’s original spiritual consciousness.

FOUNDER ACHARYA OF ISKCON | HIS DIVINE GRACE

Srila Prabhupada

5

”golokera prema-dhana, hari-nāma-saṅkīrtana“

In 1965, at the age of 70, Srila Prabhupada traveled to America under the order of his teacher, to propagate Krishna consciousness in the western world. He opened his first temple in New York City in 1966, and from a humble storefront presence, ISKCON has grown to be a vibrant global community of temples, rural projects, educational institutes, congregations, and vegetarian restaurants.

Tradition holds that in Lord Krishna’s abode “every word is a song and every step is a dance.” When Srila Prabhupada first brought the Krishna tradition West in 1965, he introduced the art of kirtan, devotional chanting accompanied by traditional instruments.

GLOBAL SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY

WHAT IS ISKCON?

5

International Society for Krishna Consciousness

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is a global spiritual community also known as the Hare Krishna Movement.

ISKCON’s system of belief and practice is based on the Bhagavad-gita, “The Song of God,” which, according to tradition, is 5,000 years old. The speaker of this sacred text is Lord Krishna, who is revered as the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

In the 16th century, a Bengali saint and avatar, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu revitalized the bhakti-yoga tradition across India. Central to this renaissance was Chaitanya’s emphasis on the chanting of Krishna’s name. Underlying this simple practice was a profound, intellectually comprehensive theology.
